We are recruiting for a Specialist to join the laboratory of Dr. Jody Baron in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, and the UCSF Liver Center. The candidate will join the GI Division & the Liver Center and will have responsibility for managing the Liver Center Immunology Core. In this dynamic and exciting position, he/she will be responsible for supervising and training all Liver Center members in use of specialized techniques and equipment for liver and immunology research, including cell sorting, flow cytometry, qPCR and Cytoff.
He/She will be responsible for supervising and training all lab members in use of specialized equipment for immunology specifically the BectonDickinson LSR II flow cytometer and ABI RealTime PCR instrument, and well as the BD FACSARIA Fusion cell sorter. After an initial training, he/she will perform multicolor flow cytometric analysis of complex populations of lymphocytes and other liver derived cell populations, and be responsible for training new users on the LSR II, as well as sorting of these cell populations. He/She will work closely with the staff in the Parnassus Flow Cytometry Core, to learn the use and capacity of all of the core’s instruments, and facilitate the use of these instruments for Liver Center members, and assist with data analysis. He/She will also develop expertise in quantitative PCR, and assist Liver Center members with this technology. In addition, the candidate will be trained to use a wide range of immunological procedures including ELISA, ELIspot, microscopy, chemical analysis of serum samples, and molecular biology. The candidate will manage and maintain the core, including quarterly core reports, ordering supplies, preventive maintenance of equipment, service contracts, equipment inventory, and environmental safety. He/She will work under the direct supervision of core’s director, Dr. Baron, but is expected to independently organize experimental data and to keep detailed records of experiments.
Minimum required qualifications:• BA/BS in biology or related major and 4+ years or relevant experience or M.S. and 2+ years relevant experience. Cognitive and technical expertise in multicolor flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting within the last 12 months preferred.• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
