The Betancur Lab is looking for a highly motivated lab manager/research assistant in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The main goal of the lab is to investigate how inflammation that is induced by radiation changes the response of the immune system and how this response can be improved to increase the efficacy of radiotherapy.
Will be assisting with translational research on human patient biopsy samples, including organoid culture, CRISPR/Cas9, single-cell sequencing, and flow cytometry. This is an excellent opportunity to work with mouse and human samples and/or strengthen your lab skills if you are to continue in the biomedical field.
Minimum required qualifications: • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology or related science or at least 4 years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology or related science or 5 years of experience in the relevant specialization. • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology or related science or 5-10 years of experience in the relevant specialization. • Experience in basic laboratory techniques such as making LB media, DNA gels, running PCR reactions, mammalian cell culture. • Understanding of basic molecular and cell biology -organization skills (ability to maintain digital notebooks or spreadsheets). • Experience in maintenance of the lab equipment, ordering lab supplies and keeping records of the lab stocks.
Preferred qualifications: • Experience with processing patient-derived tumor samples, organoid culture, CRISPR/Cas9 constructs cloning, preparation of samples for single cell sequencing and/or flow cytometry
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
