Job Requisition Number: 26602. The College of Chemistry is comprised of two departments - the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Both disciplines provide the opportunity and means for meeting major scientific and technological challenges, such as addressing climate change, increasing the world's food supply, synthesizing new materials, and discovering and delivering important drugs. The college prides itself on a balanced approach to science, with research areas ranging from experimental to theoretical. Faculty in both departments are engaged in teaching and research in a wide range of applications and sub-disciplines.
This position involves analytical studies and communication on a variety of projects, programs and issues in support of Professor Ron Cohen’s research group, especially the BEACO2N project. The incumbent will assist in program planning, development and administration; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services regarding general management to the project team.
Marketing and Communication: •Manage website content for Cohen Research team. Manage communications relationships with school districts, museums, hospitals and other entities that are host sites for the BEACO2N network (100+ locations), support curriculum development, advertising and programmatic materials for 6 week summer programs in atmospheric chemistry. •Manage Professor Cohen’s individual online presence, public materials, APBears record, written descriptions of research and accomplishments.
Relationship Facilitation (campus and external constituents): •Managing complex interactions between internal department constituents, external campus bureaucracy, and assisting in teaching research group constituents (i.e. Postdocs and PhD students) on how to manage these relationships and interactions. •Facilitation of meetings, legal requirements, scheduling and access between BEACO2N research team and site constituents (e.g. schools, building management, etc), and management of relationship between BEACO2N group and external constituents. •Assist current management team for the BEACO2N project in setting goals, timelines, and leading meetings. •Prepares, edits and modifies documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations and grant proposals.
Overall Faculty Support Duties: •Gathering documents, managing appointment end dates, managing research group purchasing, managing travel reimbursements and other rudimentary faculty support duties.•Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs. •Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing. •Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. •Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. •Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. •Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
Education/Training: •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training This is a part-time (50%), two-year contract position, with full UC Benefits.
