UCSC strives to embrace diversity in all its forms; it strives to be an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened & productive environment.
UC Santa Cruz offers a vibrant community that inspires the intellectual and personal development of all students. The Division of Student Affairs supports students and creates a living-learning community where students thrive, belong, and are engaged world citizens. The division assumes primary responsibility and leadership for enrolling a diverse undergraduate student body, ensuring enriching and supportive living and learning environments, and developing exemplary co-curricular programs and engagement opportunities that enrich the UC Santa Cruz experience and support learning.
The colleges at UC Santa Cruz are the heart of the campus living-learning communities and serve as the fundamental building block of the undergraduate educational experience. The colleges enrich undergraduate life by providing the advantages of a small college atmosphere within the extensive resources of the large university. Each college provides academic support, organizes student activities, and sponsors events that enhance the intellectual and social life of the campus in addition to housing students in small-scale residential communities. Every college community includes students with diverse backgrounds and academic goals. A student's college affiliation is independent of his/her choice of major. Each of our ten colleges has between 1300-1500 undergraduate students with approximately 50% housed in their college. The college staff (Academic Life, Student Life, Residential Life) serves as a team in developing the curricular theme and program of the college.
Colleges Nine and Ten are the two newest of the ten colleges. The theme of College Nine is International and Global Perspectives and College Ten's theme is Social Justice and Community. Building a diverse, international and multicultural community with respect for and understanding of ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, lifestyle and political differences is the guiding force in all the incumbent's work.
