Department: STUDENT HOUSING - 068090 Department Description: Student Housing provides a home to over 8,000 UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students. Over 5,000 students reside in the residence halls, most of them in their first year at the university. Almost 1,000 students live in apartments as part of the Student Housing transfer student housing program, and more than 2,000 students live in one of several campus apartments, enjoying the diversity and campus proximity these communities provide.

Job Summary: Under general supervision of the HR/Payroll Supervisor, work with departmental HR Specialists and hiring managers in Student Housing and Dining Services to coordinate recruitment, position maintenance and departmental on-boarding for Student Housing and Dining Services career and student positions.
Liaison with Third Party Hotel Contractor, departmental managers and Shared Service Organization (SSO) to coordinate recruitment process. Communicate and implement policy to accommodate Contractor model within a collective bargaining environment. Execute hiring and payroll actions and track staff and student employees throughout the processes.
Support staff and supervisors with payroll questions, and work with campus partners to resolve issues. Provide customer service to supervisors and employees by assisting with HR/payroll concerns as needed.
Provide backup support to Assistant Director and HR Specialists on various Personnel functions. Serve as backup for the departmental Payroll processing staff, leaves coordinator, and safety, training and compliance staff.
Physical Demands: Lift boxes and files weighing up to 20 lbs.
Use computer equipment for extended periods of time (6-8 hours per day).
Work Environment: Occasional overtime may be required to meet operational needs.
Work in shared work environment that is occasionally noisy.
Restricted vacation during peak workload periods. Work occasional evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience coordinating recruitment and staffing operations in a large complex organization.
Experience implementing principles and practices of human resources management, including recruitment, classification administration and staff development training.
Computer skills including knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook programs.
Experience with payroll entry and troubleshooting.
Experience with tracking and maintaining personnel information.
Interpersonal skills to provide customer service to those contacted in the course of work.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of UC systems including PPS, OPTRS, Decision Support, PeopleAdmin, Handshake, Kronos, Banner.
Experience working with Microsoft Access in building and maintaining systems.
Working knowledge of UC Davis campus policy/procedures and payroll/personnel experience.
Leadership skills to advise managers on hiring practices and evaluating employees.
Organizational and managerial skills to prioritize, plan and direct workload.
Writing and communication skills to prepare and present documents/proposals for management and correspondence with various constituencies within campus and UC system.
