DUTIES: - Supervising the work of College Accountants and Accounting Clerk. - Reviewing and approving journal entries prepared by the Accounting clerk and Staff Accountants. - Acting as primary Finance liaison with the Bursar's Office to verify that cash received and expenses incurred by the Bursar's Office are properly recorded in the General Ledger. - Assisting the Bursar's Office in enhancing Management Reporting for the Academic Division. - Providing technical accounting advice to Downstate Medical Center staff. - Identifying, developing, and documenting policies and procedures to ensure that adequate financial controls exist. - Preparing journal entries for complex transactions (e.g., payroll distributions). - Monitoring postings to the State University of New York (SUNY) Collection Fund. - Assisting the Deputy Controller in preparing SUNY and State of New York (State) Financial Reports. - Working with the Bursar's Office to reconcile Academic related receivables to the General Ledger. - Reconciling feeds between Downstate financial system and SUNY and State financial systems. - Preparing General Ledger account reconciliations. - Researching and verifying data, as needed. - Preparing and/or reviewing bank reconciliations. - Preparing accreditation reporting (MSCHE & LCME). - Journal entry processing. - Preparing ad hoc analyses as needed. (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: - 5-7 years of accounting experience, with experience in a higher education and/or state government environment. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred. Knowledge of Government accounting policies and procedures, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required. Knowledge of Banner Accounts Receivable software and Argos Report writer is essential. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel required, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.
