SUMMARY: This position works to engage and enroll first-time, first-year degree seeking students from a designated territory. The assigned territory for this position will be Western NC and SC, along with the state of Tennessee (subject to change to meet university needs). This role collaborates with Traditional Undergraduate Admissions leadership and university stakeholders to plan and execute an effective territory management strategy. This role’s territory will be split between in-state and out-of-state responsibilities. In addition, this person will be expected to contribute on 1-2 programmatic responsibilities that complement Queens’ admissions enrollment efforts.
Queens’ admissions counselors must demonstrate exemplary customer service that conveys a global perspective and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Evening and weekend work is sometimes required during busy seasons, as is the willingness and ability to travel for extended periods (e.g., more than one week).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Admissions Counseling Duties:
Plans and executes 9-10 weeks of annual recruitment travel within assigned territory.
Coordinates visits to high schools, hosts student receptions, represents Queens at college fairs and attends alumni events in assigned regions during fall, spring, and summer months.
Responsible for enrolling a designated number of new freshman students from assigned territory.
Maintains and nurtures strong relationships with prospective students and their families by accurately communicating the value of a Queens education throughout the admissions process.
Provides enhanced and direct customer service to on-campus visitors, fall open house and spring yield program participants, and constituents from assigned regions.
Prepares and delivers on-campus group information sessions for visiting families (daily, in rotation).
Maintains regular telephone and email contact with prospective students, families, and secondary school counselors regarding the admissions process and the status of multiple and ongoing admissions decisions.
Represents Admissions to constituents in assigned regions. Conducts market/territory research to identify prospective undergraduate students and plan travel accordingly.
Prepares reports at the conclusion of travel seasons with market analysis and recommendations for future opportunities.
Evaluates, reviews and recommends admissions decisions on applications submitted within territory.
Makes recommendations to department senior leaders regarding merit scholarship consideration of prospective students in an effort to yield admitted students seeking economic support to the university.
Participate in on-campus activities, such as fall open house programs, major on-campus interview events, spring admitted student yield programs, etc., and provides other customer service support as needed.
Participates in professional development opportunities, diversity initiatives, on-campus programs, and general office support, etc.
As an admissions counselor, this position serves as point for 1-2 programmatic responsibilities as part of Queens’ enrollment process. For example:
Assisting the campus visit coordinator with open house logistics.
Participating in setup and breakdown of campus events.
Helping plan and communicate orientation details to international students.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:
1-3 years of experience in admissions, enrollment management, recruiting or similar field.
High level of energy and eager to convey the Queens’ story to prospective students and their families.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly establish rapport with a wide spectrum of people, both external and internal to the university.
Proven ability to maintain and project a professional image at all times when representing the university.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; proven ability to plan and deliver effective presentations to small and large groups.
Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong follow-up and follow-through skills.
Proven attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
Proven ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely, creative, win-win manner.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.
Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel; knowledge of Slate software a plus.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to remain calm and resourceful in stressful situations.
Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new information.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license with no serious infractions, or ability to obtain same within 30 days of hire.
Ability to use absolute discretion when dealing with sensitive, confidential materials; familiarity with FERPA a plus.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, high volume and may be stressful at times.
Work has regular evening and weekend hours and requires regular extended travel (more than one week at a time), most often in private vehicle, occasionally via public transportation (e.g., air travel).
