Holy Names University Cushing Library seeks a creative, dynamic, team-oriented individual to serve as Research Librarian (part-time/ 9 month). Primary responsibilities include serving as the evening/weekend Research and Instruction Librarian. Additionally, the candidate will work collaboratively on service improvements, collection development, and provide stellar reference service. Evening and weekend work is required.
Major activities conducted by the Librarian for Research & Instruction include planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating appropriate educational and research support services; providing information research consultation services; developing new initiatives and partnerships to further student success in degree completion and lifelong learning; assist in the development of web pages, tutorials, and other online tools.
The incumbent's duties also include preparing reports and analysis regarding ongoing services and special projects, including the generation and interpretation of data that inform decisions and demonstrate the Library's value to the HNU community and beyond.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: Provide specialized research assistance to students, faculty, and visiting scholars, both on-site and remotely. Establish instructional goals and strategies, promoting instructional offerings and collaborating with faculty and administration to promote information literacy. Teach course-integrated instruction across disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Produce and manage web-based resource guides and similar tools for supporting information literacy and research services. Maintain awareness of best practices and trends in library instruction and instructional needs and implements practices, as appropriate. Work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, staff, and students on information literacy instruction, specialized workshops, reference, assessment, library services and collection development activities. Serve as a library liaison to one or more academic units providing customized services. Evaluate materials (books, periodicals, multi-media and online resources) in assigned areas of responsibilities. Collaborate with faculty to determine priorities for the collection. Actively evaluate assigned collection areas to determine quality, currency, and relevance; making removal and purchasing recommendations. Participate in marketing and outreach efforts of the library by coordinating orientation efforts, promotional events, and other activities. Keep current with emerging trends and technologies, evaluating developments, and recommending directions. Actively engage in scholarly and professional activities with campus, local and national committees and organizations. Identify grant and other external support. Compile statistics and provide analysis of significance. Serve as a back up to other units and services as needed. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience in an Academic Library Intermediate expertise with Microsoft Office, SpringShare, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia Studio, or similar e-learning software. Experience in the provision of reference and instructional services. Knowledge of copyright, permissions, and appropriate attribution of licensed materials. Experience preparing and delivering workshops and presentations Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations or other activities appropriate to the discipline or assignment. Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment. Excellent problem solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to understand user comfort levels with technology and employ teaching concepts related to the adult learner. Highly flexible with ability to thrive in a fast-paced and continually changing environment. Ability to troubleshoot computers and/or software applications. Experience at urban research institutions within a diverse and social responsible learning community is desired
