The Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is now recruiting for a Full Specialist. The individual will be responsible for quantitative analysis of neuronal and synaptic function in models of neurological and psychiatric disease. The individual must possess extensive experience with electrophysiological analysis of synaptic transmission and intrinsic neuronal excitability. The individual must also possess quantitative skills for live imaging of neuronal function using calcium indicators and optogenetic tools. Finally, the individual should have extensive experience working with both the mouse central nervous system and the Drosophila model genetic organism, including significant expertise in genetic analysis. The individual will be responsible for pursuing novel gene discovery in Drosophila and will be responsible for translating these findings into the mouse model system where parallel genetic and functional assays will be performed. Duties include Drosophila and mouse husbandry, genetics and electrophysiology on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications: • A terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience. • The ideal individual will have 5 or more years’ experience in cellular and molecular neuroscience using techniques including slice electrophysiology, single cell RNAseq and model oganism genetic analyses. • At least 5 years of experience with synaptic electrophysiology in both model organisms (Drosophila melanogaster or C. elegans) and mouse acute brain slice. • Extensive experience with quantitative light microscopy including quantitative calcium imaging and multi-photon microscopy. • A record of first author publications. • Computational skills • The ideal individual will have demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team setting and be able to contribute to collaborative research resulting in primary publications.
Preferred Qualifications: • Post-graduate training in field • Independent specialized research
