Rachel Carson College: Lecturer Pool, Non-core Courses (Ongoing)
The Rachel Carson College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time Lecturers who may be appointed to teach in its non-core undergraduate courses, especially in the areas of Sustainability Studies and Science and Entrepreneurship. The theme of the College is Environment and Society (see http://rachelcarson.ucsc.edu/) and most of these classes focus on one aspect or another of social and ecological sustainability, from the social science, natural science, and engineering perspectives. These courses are interactive, involving both classroom instruction and hands-on experiential learning.
The ideal candidate will have both instructional and occupational experience in fields and areas relevant to the advertised position, be willing to work with and mentor enthusiastic and dedicated students and student groups, and be committed to increasing diversity in the Green Economy. The successful candidates must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
ACADEMIC TITLE Lecturer
SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree; or Bachelor's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) with a minimum of three years professional and/or teaching experience in areas related to Sustainability Studies, Science, and Entrepreneurship such as renewable energy policy, regulation, and technology; urban agriculture and permaculture; water issues and conservation; household consumption and practices; green building and landscape design; and urban transportation planning. Degree requirement must be met at the time of application.
POSITION AVAILABLE Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), as openings occur. Appointments are contingent upon availability of funding.
