The Division of Experimental Medicine is now recruiting for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professional Researcher. Areas of responsibilities for this position include: To carry out research in the area of mycobacterial stress and antibiotic tolerance, including writing grants, devising appropriate research strategies, designing and carrying out experiments, interpreting data, reporting the results and interpretation of the experiments to internal and external audiences, and preparing and submitting scholarly papers for peer-review. As a relatively senior member of the lab, this individual will also be expected to provide a leadership and mentoring role, particularly for the younger trainees and those whom are supervised during the course of the above work. In addition, the researcher will be responsible for the independent operation, troubleshooting and analysis of data from the specialist equipment in the mycobacterial research laboratory and platform.
More specially, the researcher will have the following responsibilities:
Commit to high quality performance regarding research or other laboratory and university affairs
Support projects related to the overall research goals as set by the Principal Investigator
Contribute to experimental design, data acquisition, analysis and manuscript writing for ongoing projects within the Principal Investigator's research group
Troubleshoot protocols and equipment and contribute to development of new techniques
Demonstrate independence, initiative, and problem-solving skills
Develop the following skills required for an independent research career:
Develop a unique knowledge base
Develop an in-depth understanding of the molecular aspects of mycobacterial stress adaptation, specifically with regards to biomechanical properties
Perform literature and data review
Balance and manage multiple tasks and projects independently
Demonstrate attention to details and organizational skills
Develop and maintain professional relationships with all members of the Division
Interact effectively with collaborators within UCSF and beyond
Initiate and maintain regular communication with laboratory principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows and other staff members and faculty
Participate in and present at division-wide laboratory meetings
Participate in regular informal or formal meetings with the Principal Investigator and Division Chief, or other administrative staff
Participate in scheduled meetings to discuss work performance

Appointees in the Professional Research series must possess a doctorate or its equivalent. Appointees at the Associate and/or Full rank in the Professional Research series will be expected to possess unique and essential research expertise, make meritorious contributions in independent and creative research activity and participate in university and/or public service. Completion of post-doctoral fellowship is preferred.
