Biomolecular Engineering: Corbett-Detig Lab, Junior Specialist (Open until filled. Apply by 9/2/2020)
The Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a junior specialist. Under the direction of Dr. Russ Corbett-Detig the junior specialist will develop and apply variant-graph bioinformatic methods for accurate interpretation of highly variable genome sequence data. The junior specialist will develop and document reproducible and distributable workflows for the research community. Additionally, the junior specialist will develop molecular biology techniques to facilitate novel genome sequencing techniques. The Corbett-Detig lab is actively working on long-read based genome assembly methods and is particularly interested in applicants who have experience with Oxford Nanopore sequence data, computer aided design platforms, and developing electronic circuits.

ACADEMIC TITLE Junior Specialist
SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors of Science (or equivalent foreign degree) in biomolecular engineering, computer science, or molecular biology at the time of application and two or more years of research experience within a university or industry laboratory either during undergraduate work or after, with a focus on development of bioinformatic pipelines for genomic data analysis.
POSITION AVAILABLE As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be 75% time (with the possibility of increase) for one year with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
