Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology: Junior-Assistant Specialist (Open until filled. Apply by 9/2/2020)
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a specialist position. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Joshua Arribere, the selected candidate will contribute to a research program in quality control of gene expression, focusing on RNA and protein metabolism and should have a command of genetics, basic biochemistry, and molecular biology. Duties will include generation of C. elegans strains (via mutagenesis, CRISPR/Cas9, crossing), nucleic acid extraction and analysis (e.g., deep sequencing library preparation), ribosomal preparation and analysis (e.g., ribosome footprinting), and protein analysis (immunoblotting, protein fluorescence). The position will require the candidate to employ excellent communication skills, effectively plan and execute research projects, and successfully work both independently and collaboratively.
We have a preference for candidates who possess any or all of the following preferred qualifications: Experience with gene expression; experience with immunoblotting; experience with the nematode C. elegans or other model organisms. SALARY $44,500 - $53,300 annually, Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
B.A. or B.S. degree (or foreign equivalent) in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, computational biology or related field at the time of application.
A minimum of one-year of laboratory research experience.
Experience with molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to the following: PCR, recombinant DNA technology, extraction and analysis of nucleic acid and ribonucleoprotein complexes, and immunoblotting.

DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be fulltime for one year. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
