Astronomy and Astrophysics: Junior Specialist (Open until filled. Apply by 9/4/2020)
The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a junior specialist. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Rebecca Jensen-Clem, the junior specialist will complete the following research activities: plan and carry out near-infrared polarimetric observations of directly imaged substellar objects and their host stars, as well as free-floating brown dwarfs; develop data reduction pipelines to support precision measurements of such objects' linear polarization as a function of time and wavelength; and interpret linear polarization signals and upper limits in the context of rotation rates and cloud physics.

ACADEMIC TITLE Junior Specialist
SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
B. S. (or equivalent foreign degree) in astronomy or physics at the time of application.
Experience with near-infrared polarimetric data products.
POSITION AVAILABLE As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be fulltime for one year. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
