Stanford University Department of Genetics has an excellent opportunity available as a part of the Data Operations team for the data generated by Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI)-funded Seed Networks. The Seed Networks are a foundational group of the Human Cell Atlas, a worldwide effort to characterize all human cell types using high-throughput, high-resolution technology, including single-cell genomics and imaging assays. The vast amount of data that will be generated by the Seed Networks will be made accessible to the entire scientific community and will comprise a reference map of the human body. This reference resource will make fundamental contributions to our understanding of human biology, disease, and treatments. The Data Operations team is primarily responsible for collaborating with data generators in order to wrangle data into the database, as well as interacting with the scientific community to ensure data usability. We are looking to hire 3 individuals for this role. The Associate Biocuration Scientist will join a small team of Ph.D. biologists, computational biologists, experienced database managers in the Cherry Lab, and will work closely with external scientific and software developer colleagues. The successful candidate will be able to distill large, complex research and discussions into summaries and reports, for use within the Seed Networks, as well as documentation for the greater scientific community regarding effective use of the data. They will engage with the community, through published research and at scientific conferences, in order to understand the needs of data generators and data users. They will distill those needs into data resource requirements and features that will improve the accessibility and usability of data to researchers worldwide.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree in a field of Biology or Bioinformatics and one year of relevant experience, or combination of relevant experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Strong knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics
Strong analytical skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
Ability to understand scientific literature, experimental procedures, and their limitations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (DESIRED):
Laboratory experience with genomics or imaging techniques
Experience using genome browsers and data visualization tools
Experience with modern high-throughput genomics and proteomics experiments and their data types
Experience with computer programming
Experience with both independent and collaborative work environments
Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.
Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
