To provide 2nd shift, Sunday - Thursday public and technicalservices and technology support for the DeVine Music Library. The LibrarySupervisor I (evening position) serves as the evening/weekend supervisor ofStudent Library Assistants and manages the facility during evenings and onSundays; provides circulation and reference assistance to patrons during thosetimes; coordinates computer and technology support for the branch; maintainsthe branch's website. In technical services, this position processes newmaterials for inclusion in the collection and troubleshootsprocessing/transfer/damaged item issues; prepares periodical shipments for thebindery; catalogs School of Music performance CDs, and performs Alma copycataloging for the collection as needed.
This position has broad responsibilities and operates with a highlevel of autonomy. The evening supervisor oversees operations of the branchlibrary in the absence of other faculty and staff, serving as the onlyfull-time staff on site for 28 hours each week.
Evening /Weekend Supervisor / Reference/ Public Services
SupervisesMusic Library public services and circulation activities and control ofmaterials being circulated; mediates problems with library patrons regardingfines and books charged in Alma; serves as first point of appeal for fines andother charges (damaged books, etc.). Assists in developing library policies and procedures and theninterpreting them to patrons. Refersunresolved public service problems to day supervisor.
SupervisesStudent Employees in coordination with the day supervisor:
Interview,hire, and train student staff
Supervisestudent library assistants (SLAs) during evening hours
Superviseoperation, revisions, and SLAs who input indexing data for the UT Song Indexand Analysis Index.
Supervisestudent cleaning of facilities and equipment.
SuperviseSLAs doing pre-order bibliographic verification of music scores and recordingsin online catalog, acquisition system order records, and OCLC or otherdatabases.
Providesin-depth catalog assistance to help students and faculty to locate print andelectronic music materials
Providesreference and research assistance to users, in person and via e-mail, chat, andtelephone, locating specialized music information and instructing in itsuse.
Providesinstruction on finding and using electronic resources (local and remotedatabases, systems, and catalogs)
Supportsprocessing for course reserve materials.
Check-inand process all new branch library materials.
Handlestransfers and withdrawals; under librarian supervision, implement summertransfers to storage and shifting of collections.
Identifiescollection items having cataloging or classification problems and send toappropriate staff for correction.
Responsiblefor current periodicals collection including branch binding shipments.
Usescataloging template in Alma to add records for School of Music concerts andrecitals.
Performscopy cataloging of gift items in Alma as needed
Computerand Equipment Technical Support
Providestechnical assistance for users and branch staff regarding use of electronicresources, including:
Trouble-shootscomputer equipment problems;
Adviseslibrarians on technical issues and problems;
Performsregular maintenance and software updates for 8 public laptops and 6 staffworkstations.
Liaising withstaff in other library units to identify needs, plan training, and seeksolutions to computer-related problems in the Libraries;
Createsand maintains branch library web site; develops and maintains instructionalmaterials to guide patrons in using electronic and physical library resources.
Conductsor contributes to library-wide training related to technology.
Representsthe Music Library on University Libraries website management and othertechnology working groups and committees.
