The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks to appoint two full-time Postdoctoral Fellows in Primary Care Behavioral Health for a two-year fellowship beginning fall of 2021. The purpose of this unique fellowship is to train the next generation of primary care psychologists to become leaders who possess critical and systematic skills to support the empowerment of vulnerable populations in integrated primary care settings. Our Departmental mission is to empower our patients, families, and communities, and promote social justice by providing easily accessible mental health services for all. The recent pandemic has underscored the importance of this goal and has created new opportunities to broaden our reach. Provision of mental health services has evolved to include telehealth and other adaptations to ensure continued access to care in these trying times. This is an exciting opportunity for new fellows to join our team and be part of this transformation in healthcare.
We offer two fellowship tracks. One track is split between Bethesda and Smiley's Family Medicine Clinics in the Twin Cities. The other track is at Broadway Family Medicine Clinic in North Minneapolis. All three clinics are family medicine residency programs and certified patient centered medical homes. These clinics provide care to urban underserved patient populations that are racially, ethnically, and socially diverse with complex medical and psychosocial needs. There are a wide range of presenting problems including depression, anxiety, health behavior change, chronic pain, somatization, etc.
In addition to providing clinical care, fellows are actively engaged in a variety of teaching activities with our family medicine residents, including interdisciplinary team meetings, video review, shadowing, and didactic classroom teaching. Fellows receive individual, group, and peer supervision, and participate in a variety of didactic activities. Furthermore, fellows co-train alongside family medicine residents to receive interdisciplinary training on population health, complex care management, and resilience.
Primary supervisors are: Dana Brandenburg, PsyD, Christine Danner, PhD, and Michelle Sherman, PhD, ABPP.
This fellowship provides training on the integration of behavioral health in primary care and residency education. Fellow activities include:
Provide evidenced-based psychological services in a primary care setting.
Implement behavioral health programs that target population health and other quality improvement initiatives.
Work effectively in an interprofessional team (faculty physicians, resident physicians, clinical pharmacists, care coordinators, and many others).
Precept family medicine residents on topics such as patient-centered communication, behavior change counseling, and mental health diagnosis and treatment.
Engage in the overall behavioral medicine teaching for the family medicine residents.
Complete a scholarly activity that advances the field of integrated behavioral health.

Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on resume):
Applicants must have completed (degree conferred) a PhD or PsyD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program and completed an APA- accredited predoctoral internship.
Eligible for licensure as a psychologist in the State of Minnesota.
Experience with providing psychotherapy.
Background in behavioral medicine, primary care psychology, health psychology, or integrated care.
