This position will spend significant time in collaboration with the Immunology/HLA Laboratory Medical Director.   This large laboratory program supports preeminent solid organ (kidney, heart, lung, pancreas, liver) and stem cell transplant programs for the University of Minnesota Medical Center as well as other metro and regional transplant programs including LifeSource, the organ procurement organization that serves communities in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of Western Wisconsin.   The Immunology/HLA Laboratory is fully accredited in all areas of histocompatibility testing including DNA-based HLA class I and II typing, solid phase antibody testing, and cross matching.  The Immunology/HLA laboratory performs about 25,000 HLA antibody tests for pre-transplantation listing and  post-transplant, donor-specific antibody monitoring, about 1,500 flow cytometic crossmatches and 8,000 HLA typing by Real time-PCR, sequence-specific primers, sequence-specific oligonucleotide probe hybridization testing, and Sanger sequencing.  Sign-out responsibilities, on-call duties, resident supervision and conferences are shared with other members of the clinical immunology faculty.

Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate’s area of specialty/research experience with a goal of developing collaborative or independent, externally funded research.  Faculty will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment for medical students, residents and faculty.
