This is a highly functioning position requiring the exercise of initiative and independent judgement. Position requires knowledge of employment laws and principles, and extensive knowledge of the University policies and procedures relative to employment, compensation, leave and benefits administration. Manages and maintains complex employee personnel and payroll records. Prepares and audits documents and data for salary, leave and benefit processing assuring compliance to Laws and University Policy and Procedures. The employee interacts with all aspects of the University's community including the executive/administrative/clerical and student staff as well as the general public. The employee interacts extensively with the University’s Directors of Business and Administration in the hiring and salary management process. The employee must exercise judgement and discretion in its relationships with the diverse population of the University. Candidate serves as team lead in guiding the biweekly payroll activities and other data demands. As a member of the HR Call Center (HR Help Desk), the employee manages and services inquiries from University employees and constituents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes and maintains working relationships with key personnel in the management of employment and payroll records. Guides employees through complex administrative processes and audits.
Establishes and maintains both electronic and manual support records for all employees including the personnel, payroll, leave, and benefit records. This activity requires astute knowledge with University policies and procedures as well as command of the administrative computing systems. Responsible for documenting, coding, and processing all data necessary to support the employee record including new hires, terminations, re-appointments, status and salary changes to personal information.
Conducts intensive and complex audits of employee records including regular bi-weekly audits of the pay files. Ensures that completed work conforms to established University and Human Resources standards and criteria. Provides assistance to the University community and directing inquiries relative to the HR Service Call Center. Candidate is to expected to represent the department and University with the utmost professionalism in an attentive and positive manner. Associate’s degree in accounting, information systems, computer science, or related field from an accredited institution.
3-5 years’ progressively responsible and related work experience, specifically in the area of HR and/or Payroll processing.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Knowledge of software applications, including database and spreadsheets; advance excel skills preferred. Knowledge of SCT Banner preferred. Knowledge and/or experience with any of the following applications is helpful - project ticketing systems, Cornerstone, Cognos or third-party applications such as HireRight.
Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to employment.
Knowledge of basic accounting, payroll and benefit concepts. Budget management experience helpful.
Ability to work independently and exercise confidentiality with employment information.
Ability to effectively well with work well with others as a member of the HRIS team.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University staff, faculty, students, and the general public.
Ability to provide astute attention to detail and problem solving.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations and understanding of complex data integrations and data relationships.
Strong customer service orientation.
Work is performed in an office environment
