UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT is currently looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer who will support the UW-IT work on Finance Transformation, the University’s large-scale project to modernize its finance operations, business systems and processes. The position is a role in the newly established UW-IT FT program (ITF).
The ITF BI Developer will contribute to the UW Finance Transformation Project remediating existing Finance-related BI tools that are impacted by Finance Transformation; this position will need to translate Finance requirements into Workday functionality in a reporting environment. The BI Developer will partner directly with the UW-IT Business Intelligence team, FT stakeholders, and campus users to conduct business analysis, document and articulate findings, produce and maintain BI deliverables, and other duties as assigned. The position requires a depth of knowledge in relational databases, data modeling, BI development, business analysis methods, and the data warehousing software development lifecycle.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Four years' experience performing progressively more complex and responsible tasks involving development and operations of business intelligence tools.
Experience within a software development lifecycle.
Experience with BI programming languages (SQL, TSQL).
Experience with BI Technologies (SSRS, SSAS).
Familiar with source code management and tools and processes like TFS.
Experience conducting business analysis, designing, prototyping, and developing data cubes and reports.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
An effective team player who enjoys collaboration.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Strong experience with BI in the Cloud.
Strong experience writing complex SQL queries and tuning for performance.
Working knowledge of MDX, DAX, and Tabular Cubes.
Knowledge of cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, and/or Azure.
Knowledge of scalable and reliable software systems.
Knowledge of software test methodologies and automation tools.
Knowledge of open source software development.
Experience in a major research University setting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work in an open office environment. This position involves responsibilities and occasional situations where work outside of standard business hours is required to respond to incidents or to meet critical deadlines. Work in an open office environment.
This position on the Finance Transformation Project is temporarily funded; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.
This position is eligible for flexible remote work.
