We are seeking an energetic faculty member to teach all levels of Sculpture.
The faculty member will report to the Head of the Department of Art and teach a 3/3 course load in the Sculpture area. In addition to teaching duties, the professor will be responsible for advising students and service to the department, college, and university. Candidates are expected to pursue and maintain an active body of research and to remain current in their area of expertise.
The Department of Art is NASAD accredited and located within the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. It has approximately 300 Art Majors, 20 full-time faculty, and offers a BFA degree with concentrations in Fine Art, Graphic Design, and Photography. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Teach three studio courses per semester in Sculpture. -Maintain an active body of research or creative activities. -Advise Sculpture students and serve on undergraduate thesis committees. -Serve as the Area Coordinator for Sculpture: oversee the sculpture curriculum and curriculum development, the area budget, endowment funds, etc. -Oversee the Sculpture Studio and 3D classroom (totaling almost 6,000 sq/ft with a woodworking area, metal shop, and hot metal casting area). -Uphold relevant health and safety standards. -Perform committee service as well as other service opportunities at the department, college, and university level.
-At time of appointment, an MFA or equivalent terminal degree with an emphasis in Sculpture or related field. -Familiarity with traditional and contemporary sculpture processes and understanding of a variety of materials, production methods, and design tools. -Evidence of teaching experience and the ability to teach all levels of Sculpture. -Ability to run and oversee a Sculpture studio, and to uphold relevant health and safety standards. -A record of research and creative activities. -Excellent communication and organizational skills.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
-Two or more years of teaching Sculpture and/or 3-D Design beyond the TA level.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds. Standing and /or walking for more than 4hrs per day. The work environment involves exposure to potential dangers that require following common-sense safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
