Position Description: The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, invites applicants to apply for a part-time, teacher-clinician; 0.5 to 2 days per week, 40 weeks per year.
The department is responsible for teaching pediatric dentistry at the pre-doctoral level. Teaching is done in a humanistic manner, such that students are enthusiastic about providing oral healthcare to children and inspired by the professionalism, expertise, and demeanor of the departmental faculty and staff. Additionally, the school's dental auxiliary utilization (DAU) program is part of the department, and is taught concurrently with pediatric dentistry both pre-clinically and in the pediatric clinic.
In addition to the formal curriculum, the department is active in community outreach activities, and independently as well as in conjunction with the student-organized outreach group (SCOPE), organizes, coordinates and provides outreach activities to the children of the community.
Department faculty members are integral in all activities of the department, and teach the students in all areas by instruction and also by example.
Responsibilities may include any of the following:
I. Preclinical instruction II. Clinical instruction III. Specialty Preparatory Activities IV. Teaching activities in interdisciplinary courses and other departments in the school These activities are assigned by the Department Chair in consultation with the individual faculty member.
Workload: Because Pediatric Dentistry is a small department, with extensive commitments within the school, workload varies quarter to quarter. Specific workload and scheduling will be adjusted based on the faculty member's as well as the department's needs.
For part-time faculty in the teacher-clinician track, emphasis is placed on teaching activities, but participation in scholarship and service is encouraged.
Physical Requirements: Position requires alternate walking, standing, and sitting. May require standing for long periods of time dependent upon patient/clinic needs. Reaching and handling of dental instruments. May be requested to assist with temporary physical restraint of patients in emergency situations. Occasional pushing, pulling; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment is expected to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.
Special Instructions: This recruitment is to establish a pool of qualified candidates, from which multiple short term, temporary appointments may be made.
