Brown Health Services, an accredited AAAHC health center, offers comprehensive primary care services to more than 9,600 students, providing 32,000 annual visits.Â Â Services available on-site include primary and urgent medical care, laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy and immunizations.Â Other departments in Health and Wellness include BWell Health Promotion, Counseling and Psychological Services, Emergency Medical Services and Student Accessibility Services.
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is an integral part of the health care team at Health Services that serves the diverse student population at Brown.Â They are responsible for providing primary medical care and health education to undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Some Brown employees are also seen at Health Services for triage of on the job injuries.
This is a .80 FTE, 12 month position with full benefits.Â The schedule is 4-5 days per week during the academic year, including some evening and weekend coverage during the academic year.Â Weekend coverage is 2-3 weekends per semester. Summer coverage is required and will vary depending on staffing needs.Â
For NP candidates:
Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and Certified Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges (CNP) license in Rhode Island required
Current certification as Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or equivalent certifying body, required
Primary care clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred
FOR PA candidates:
Current Rhode Island Physician Assistant License required
Certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants required
Primary care clinical experience as a Physician Assistant strongly preferredÂ
For both NPâ™s and PAâ™s:
DEA license is required
BLS CPR certification required
Experience providing culturally competent care to a diverse population required; experience working with diverse student populations strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in and support a diverse and inclusive environment
Patient education and social skills necessary for working with young adult population preferred
Ability to work as part of a collaborative team in group practice
Commitment to Quality Improvement principles
Experience with a clinical practice using an electronic medical record

Specialized focus or training in sports medicine and/or kinesiology preferred
