Under the leadership of the Director, EHS, develops andmanages a wide variety of Industrial Hygiene-related programs that identify,analyze, and correct occupational safety and health issues. Promotes work site and product safety byapplying knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology,and industrial health and safety laws. The position requires extensiveknowledge of U.S. Federal, Tennessee OSHA, and local regulations, consensusstandards, guidelines and international building/fire codes and the ability tounderstand, interpret and implement the requirements for the workplace. May serve as the EHS Department's SeniorIndustrial Hygienist. This position isrequired to perform occasional 24-hour EHS One Call technical/emergency support.Provides cross-functional support to other EHS department disciplines asneeded. Supervises 2-3 personnel and 1-2student employees.
Responsibilities include the following:
Develop and implement strategies and systems topromote and facilitate employee compliance with UTK Industrial/Worker Safetyprograms.
Make budgetary projections and recommendationsto the director regarding overall needs and expenses of the Industrial/WorkerSafety unit.
Develop data collection methods for use inassessing program effectiveness and gaps. (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)).
Prepare progress reports for senior managersand various department/university safety committees on industrial safetyprograms implementation.
Participate in EHS department planningactivities regarding strategies and service enhancements.
Assess accidents, incidents, injuries andcomplaints concerning potential hazards or unsafe conditions in the work placeand provide reports to Risk Management/Workers' Compensation.
Recommend and implement improvements inprocesses, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize the hazardpotential.
As a lead or technical expert, provide functionaldirection and training in the overall application of occupational health andsafety programs.
Provide CPR/AED/BFA training through the EHSASHI certified training center as assigned.
