Job Description Summary: Webster University in St. Louis, MO announces a 1-year assignment position in music at the assistant professor level to begin in August, 2021. We are seeking a director of keyboard studies who is a highly innovative, stylistically versatile pianist and active performer with a strong background in collaboration, pedagogy, and outreach.
Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in music and a substantial record of relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications Earned doctorate in music (Ph.D., D.M.A., etc.) with experience teaching at the undergraduate level. The ideal candidate will have performing and collaborative experience in multiple styles and genres, expertise in piano pedagogy at all levels, strong ability to recruit students to the piano program, and ability to teach other courses in the music core or general education curriculum. Ability to teach remotely as well as in-person is expected.
Essential Duties The appointee will teach applied piano and oversee the keyboard curriculum including class piano, piano pedagogy and literature, and chamber music. The appointee will also teach a music core, general education, or interdisciplinary course, depending on the candidates expertise and needs of the Department. Coordination of and assigning students to contingent faculty, and recruitment for the keyboard area are important components of the appointees administrative responsibilities. The appointee will be expected to engage in student advising activities and supervise student projects and research. Faculty members are expected to engage in appropriate creative and scholarly endeavors, and to serve the profession and the University.
