Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Program Manager to work within the Central Office Statewide. Reporting to the Statewide Medical Director, the Program Manager develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the Statewide Infection Control Program within the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) to provide a safe environment for inmates and staff. This position is responsible for overall management and coordination of the program. The Program Manager will provide surveillance in order to identify, investigate and record data concerning infections and initiate infection control measures as directed by the Infection Control Committee.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Develops and continuously updates a Statewide Quality Improvement Program for Infection Control. * Implements surveillance program to establish and evaluate efficacy of staff practices. * Assists in monitoring and consistently enforces compliance with all pertinent environmental, health, and sanitation codes. * Initiates investigation of potential infection spread and generates guidelines for staff to follow. * Develops and implements an in-service program to instruct staff and participates in orientation of new employees to Infection Control. * Provides on-going leadership and guidance by on-site monthly training sessions.
Minimum Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. * Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field required. * Five (5) years of relevant experience with two (2) years as an Infectious Control Nurse (not to include LPN experience).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Excellent communication skills are required to interact with upper management. * Effective oral and written communication skills. * Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service environment. * An ability to interact with a diverse population in a prison setting.
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred. * Certification by the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: Ability to type and use a computer to enter in the Electronic Medical Record. Extensive typing/report preparations, extensive reading required, frequently talking and listening in large groups of people as well as on the telephone. Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position. Extended sitting is required. Ability to sit, walk, stand, reach, climb or balance. Good vision required. Ability to move from unit to unit within a Facility and to climb stairs. Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls. Ability to possibly lift up to 100 pounds. Required to travel within the State.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to the patient, security staff and health care team members. Most of the time will be working within a professional office environment outside of a secure care setting. Must be prepared to enter a crisis oriented, secure care environment where UCHC's health care staff work with adult inmates and residents, some who have exhibited aggressive, threatening behavior. Incumbent must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the secure facilities will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
* Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. * Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
