Center for Online Learning
The mission of COL is to enable students to successfully pursue their studies online to meet educational goals and engage in life-long learning, by providing a wide variety of high quality online and hybrid technology-rich courses. In addition, COL supports faculty in designing, developing, and delivering interactive, accessible teaching and learning curriculum by providing professional development and hands-on assistance.
The College continues to develop Hudson Online, which offers online and hybrid courses throughout the academic year in traditional 15-week sessions and intensive 7-week sessions. At this juncture, we are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable Instructional Designer to join our growing team.
The Instructional Designer will help create and maintain all HCCC online and hybrid courses, recommend interactive, multimedia solutions for online learning (fully online classes, hybrid and blended formats, and web-enhanced classroom courses) in the relevant Learning Management System (LMS). Reporting to the Executive Director for the Center for Online Learning, the Instructional Designer will lead faculty in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the quality of courses. The Instructional Designer will develop interactive content based on adult learning and design theories (like Blooms taxonomy, UDL, backward design, and ADDIE) and help redesign existing courses to meet quality standards. The Instructional Designer will develop online training modules focused on online teaching and learning, and design and lead technology-training sessions for faculty and students on the College's learning management system, and interactive authoring and multimedia tools. The Instructional Designer will help faculty and students resolve technical problems in the LMS and other software. The Instructional Designer will evaluate new technologies, adapt and adopt relevant ones, and train users on the selected technologies. The Instructional Designer will evaluate course quality, using tools such as best practices and Quality Matters.
The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of the LMS, adult learning and course design principles, strong technical skills in interactive content creation (such as Final Cut Pro, Moviemaker, Dreamweaver, Storyline), along with excellent collaboration and communication skills, diplomacy, persistence, flexibility, and the ability to remain focused on high quality in a deadline-driven environment.
Bachelor’s Degree in an Instructional Technology, Design-related major or comparable Technology-related field;
Minimum of three (3) years of instructional design and course building experience in education;
In-depth knowledge of and ability to create multimedia resources;
Minimum two years’ experience creating and editing video, multimedia, and interactive resources;
In-depth knowledge of a LMS and online and adult learning principles;
Demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
Master’s Degree in an Instructional Technology, Design-related major, or comparable Technology related field;
Knowledge of the specific LMS (Canvas) and tools;
Prior experience in an institution of higher education;
Experience in designing friendly user interfaces.
