The Weinberger Lab is looking to hire a Research Associate. The person in this position will be responsible for conducting small animal work and virology assays.
Design relevant animal research experiments and projects with internal and external collaborators
Research activities with small animal models to study virological diseases that may include management of colonies (including acquisition/breeding of animals, record keeping, genotyping), small animal surgeries for downstream analyses, processing tissues, harvesting and maintaining primary cell cultures, viral infections, drug administrations, among other tasks
Research activities in virology that may include expansion of viruses in cell lines, performing titrations and QC, infections, experimental perturbations, and preparation of samples (e.g. cell fixation) for downstream project-specific assays
Implementation of biosafety, security, and common laboratory standard operating procedures and processes in accordance with state and federal regulations
Ordering, stocking and general laboratory management and maintenance will be required.
Prerferred: MS degree in Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field and 3-5+ years of related experience *PhD also accepted but not necessary*
B.S./B.A., in a related field and 5-7+ years of related experience
AA/AS degree in a related field and 7-9+ years of related experience.
2+ years of extensive hands-on experience with handling of and research activities in small animal models such as mice, rats, or hamsters
2+ years of experience performing experiments in BSL2 and/or BSL3 laboratories. Training/mentoring experience is a plus but not required.
Some experience with IACUC and ACURO is preferred.
Ability to work well with a team. Has strong communication skills and works well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Attention to detail and organizational skills
