Keene State College proudly invites applications for an endowed, tenure-track chair at the rank of associate or full professor in the field of Chemistry, to begin Fall 2021. With the support of a generous gift from the Putnam family, Keene State College seeks an outstanding, nationally recognized teacher/scholar whose work will enhance Keene State College's strength and visibility in Chemistry. Candidates who work in any field of Chemistry are welcome to apply; expertise in biochemistry or materials science is highly desirable. As the only public liberal arts college in New Hampshire (an EPSCoR state), Keene State College is dedicated to academic excellence through the integration of teaching, learning, scholarship, and service. The Department is accredited by the American Chemical Society and has a variety of instrumentation at its disposal such as 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, liquid and gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, Single X-Ray Diffractometer, and multiple spectroscopy instruments. There is also a dedicated instrument support staff specialist in the Putnam Science Center to assist with instrument operation, maintenance, and calibration. In addition to providing internal support for undergraduate research efforts, Keene State College is an NH-INBRE Partner Program. The Chemistry Department has high rates of success in placing graduates in competitive industrial and graduate/professional school positions. To learn more about the Keene State College Department of Chemistry, visit: https://www.keene.edu/academics/programs/chem/ The Putnam Chair (distinct from the Department Chair) will have similar responsibilities as other tenure-track members of the faculty; however, as part of the Collegeâs commitment to scholarship and program development, the Putnam Chair will carry a reduced teaching load to allow for increased focus on scholarship. Enhanced professional development funding is also provided. Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first-generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitments to well-being and to sustainability that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who will support the Collegeâs ongoing efforts to help students become responsible global citizens. At Keene State College, we share a commitment to diversity, equity and multiculturalism as key elements of academic excellence. We seek faculty with a desire to provide support, mentorship and direction to prepare students to work within diverse communities. One of our aspirations is to develop social change agents with the knowledge, skills and experience to compassionately engage with their future employers, peers and those they serve from diverse backgrounds. Faculty actively engage in collaborative work and service within the department and across the College to advance future-thinking curricular and co-curricular approaches that strengthen our Liberal Arts focus and achieve the Collegeâs goals for inclusion and excellence as outlined in the Collegeâs Strategic Plan.
A Doctorate in Chemistry; a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the college or university level; the capacity for successful and versatile undergraduate teaching; and a record of significant, grant-supported scholarship in Chemistry that involves undergraduate collaborators and has high regard within the Chemistry higher education community.
