Reporting to the Executive Director of News in Columbia's Office of Communications and Public Affairs, the Digital Content Strategist is responsible for developing, planning, and executing digital campaigns and projects for email, web and social outlets. Our goal is to create a digital experience that resonates with the Columbia audience-one that is compelling and engaging enough to draw in new parts of our community and the media.
Working closely with Digital Content and Media Relations teams within the department and across Columbia, the Digital Content Strategist will conceive, create, and review content packages while identifying opportunities for new and existing projects that have an emphasis on the story of Columbia, including its history, life on campus, research breakthroughs, faculty milestones, and key events.
The Digital Content Strategist must have strong editorial experience, digital production skills, and the ability to collaborate across all levels of the university.
Innovates and collaborates on the delivery of content and news from a variety of sources.
Develops, plans, and manages engagement-driven distribution of targeted email newsletters.
Cultivatess a deep understanding of Columbia audience journeys and user needs to align content strategy with strategic objectives.
Optimizes content and campaigns through a test, measures, and learns approach.
Assesses content to ensure that it adheres to university brand message and goals, including editing for accuracy, voice, readability and consistency.
Builds relationships with content owners and website administrators across the Office of Communications and Public Affairs ensuring website content needs are met.
Upholds standards for consistent, clear and high-quality site content. Conducts regular quality assurance reviews to assess user experience and clear information architecture to ensure site optimization.
Makes recommendations and incorporates learning from analytics data into ongoing maintenance of the site.
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of five years' experience developing or managing written and/or multimedia materials required.
Proven ability to create shareable content; familiarity with user experience and SEO content strategies.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that include excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate across a multi-functional production team.
Deep desire to keep up with digital trends and forecasting.
Advanced knowledge of email distribution and analytics, eg. MailChimp.
Experience with content management systems, preferably Drupal.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools.
