Schedule: AM & PM shifts, including weekends

Requirements: 12 months of food experience preferred

Pay: starting $13.00 an hour

Vanderbilt Campus Dining takes pride in the culinary creations served from our kitchens. Our Dining program is highly decorated, the winner of many prestigious awards in the food service industry, including Best On-Site Food Service Operation in the Nation, Best Food Service Operator, the prestigious Ivy Award, and many more. We have main dining centers, restaurants and cafes, convenience stores, and we employ over 300 employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate a point of sale device while adhering to Vanderbilt Campus Dining cash handling regulations
• Must be able to regularly go into a cooler / freezer to stock
• Assist with food preparation
• Perform basic cooking techniques
• Complete production and log sheets as assigned (including taking and logging food temperatures)
• Maintain and stock food and beverage stations
• Serve food to customers
• Counting the contents of cash register drawer at the end of each shift, maintaining receipts, records and withdrawals
• Provide on-the-job training to new hires
• Perform all other duties as assigned and/or when needed
• Must be self-motivated and disciplined
• Lead by example and follow customer service standards outlined in the employee handbook.
• Works in a team-driven environment, takes direction, delegates tasks and assists with problem-solving
• Understands Vanderbilt Campus Dining Meal Plans and has the ability to explain the guidelines of the plan to customers
• Maintains quality, safety and sanitary standards of State and City Health Departments and Vanderbilt Campus Dining codes
• Maintains clean and orderly work area and complete other general cleaning duties
• Reports to management any safety hazards and equipment in need of repair

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory capacity; this position reports administratively and functionally to the unit's management team and chef.

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

• High School Education or equivalent preferred
• Food Handler Certified preferred
• Previous customer service and food service experience preferred
• Experience operating a point of sale device preferred
• Excellent customer service
• Great interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
• Minimum 1 year experience in the food service industry preferred
• Must be able to understand and follow directions
• Ability to read documents
• Must be able to safely operate all kitchen equipment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and frequently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to walk or stand for extended time periods, up to 6 hours
• Involves repetitive motion
• Requires frequent lifting/transporting hot food items
• Ability to work in all unit and kitchen areas while interacting with heated equipment, steam, chemicals for cleaning, etc.
