CENTRAL STERILE PROCESSING AND DISPENSARY OPERATIONS MANAGER
Primary Purpose: DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Clinical Services and Clinic Operations Manager, supervises sterilization/dispensing staff and associated processes. Performs a variety of duties related to infection control.
Essential Functions: Manage sterilization/dispensing staff to include hiring, training, staff development, work distribution, performance appraisals, adherence to clinic policies and procedures, work schedules, and commendation or disciplinary procedures.
Coordinate staff coverage for all sterilization/dispensing areas; work in concert with other clinical managers to assure effective and efficient clinic operations.
Demonstrate exceptional customer service at all times and train staff to these standards.
Maintain active membership in appropriate committees (e.g. Infection Control Committee, Clinic Committee).
Plans, directs, problem solves, and performs quality measurements of all assigned tasks, as well as independently performs routine processing of instrument sterilization; oversees troubleshooting of equipment; equipment maintenance, checks and repairs; monitoring of chemicals; and distribution of instruments and supplies.
Participates in developing improvements in infection control compliance by students, faculty and staff.
The manager provides leadership and oversight in the accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives of the School of Dentistry.
Ensure that the department is following all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include supervision of all processing activities including decontamination, high level disinfection, packaging and sterilization. Ensures all work assignments completed
Creates an environment with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety.
Ensures that adequate, appropriately competent and qualified staff is available to meet requirements
Ensures a program for initial and ongoing staff education is in place and providing quality services for all staff as defined within applicable and accepted standards.
Maintain an accurate inventory of materials and equipment; maintain security of all inventory according to established procedures.
Understand and properly employ the electronic tracking system using bar coding, scanners, and reports provided by tracking software.
Manage the restocking of inventory as needed; track inventory in the dispensary and clinical storage areas.
Maintain a neat, clean and orderly sterilization room and dispensing area according to established standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety.
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of: Sterilization techniques. Dental instruments. Dental materials and their use. Dental terminology and procedures. Infection control protocol and requirements.
Ability to: Produce professional and concise reports and written correspondence. Demonstrate professional judgment and demeanor in all situations Index and alphabetize accurately. Recognize and set-up dental instruments. Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, patients and administration. Effectively provide leadership and direction to staff and students.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in Central Sterilization Management.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Dental instruments and equipment Dental infection control regulations and guidelines
Experience: Previous experience in a hospital or health care delivery system preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC), or willing to obtain.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Requires standing during the majority of working hours. Requires lifting of instrument baskets in and out of autoclave machine and lifting boxes of gloves and dental materials up to 40 lbs. Requires moving large mobile carts through clinic areas and into/out of elevators.
