Position:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Full-timeÂ appointment inÂ the Graphic Design MFA program (GD MFA).Â Â The GD MFAÂ Department of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for thisÂ full-timeÂ faculty position with a one-year contract in a non-tenure institution beginningÂ Fall, 2021.Â
The faculty position will teachÂ eighteenÂ credits orÂ sixÂ courses per year (threeÂ courses per semester) an art school nationally known for valuing the design arts, a dedication to teaching excellence, and a rigorous liberal arts curriculum.Â Â The candidate will be capable of teaching all levels of the graduate graphic design program across digital and print media, with proficiency in current creative technologies.Â The candidate must haveÂ knowledge of graphic design principles, theories, and methodologies, with a special awareness of typography and design as global practices, serving diverse communities and individuals with different cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The interdisciplinary nature of the Department and College requires that faculty maintain an active professional practice and meaningfully contribute in a variety of areas that include: all aspects of departmental operations and institutional governance, including departmental management, advising, institutional and departmental committee service, scheduled departmental and student activities, and coordinating the department exhibitions of student work during the school year.
Three years of full-time teaching experienceÂ at the college-levelÂ orÂ equivalent experience working in the design profession.

Valued, but not required:
A reputation for excellence in the field, demonstrated through publications, competitions, conferences, or other forms of engaging the design discourse.
Knowledge of current software used for print, web design, typeface design, and prototyping.

The first multi-page PDF document should include letter of application, comprehensive CV, statement of teaching philosophy, artist statement, and names and contact information including address, phone and email for three references.Â
The second multi-page PDF document should include a portfolio of 20-25 images of professional creative work and 15-20 images of student work, to include descriptions. Links to live URLs may be submitted as well, but will be considered as a secondary source. Any additional media (MOV, MP3, etc.) should be formatted for Apple computers and have representative still image and description information in PDF portfolio document.
