Postdoctoral Scholars - In-Situ TEM, STEM Diffraction Imaging and Vibrational EELS for Quantum and Energy Materials
University of California, Irvine (UCI) is currently is seeking two postdoctoral scholars who will focus on advanced in-situ scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), STEM diffraction imaging (4D-STEM), and ultra-high energy resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) studies of quantum and energy materials. Both positions reside in Professor Xiaoqing Pan's group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UCI. Candidates will access to the state-of-the-art TEM/STEM facilities available at the UC Irvine Materials Research Institute (IMRI), https://imri.uci.edu/facilities/tem-facility/tem-instruments/. The primary goal of the research will be to advance and apply the in-situ TEM, 4D-STEM and vibrational EELS methods to investigate the structure, chemical bonding, charge distributions and dynamic behaviors in quantum and energy materials (including two-dimensional materials, oxide heterostructures, and single atom catalysts) at the atomic scale. There will be an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with materials synthesis, property measurements, and computation and modeling groups. Consideration of all candidates will begin immediately. Required Qualifications: The research will focus on the development and application of in-situ TEM, 4D-STEM and vibrational EELS methods to investigate the atomic level structure, chemistry, properties, and dynamic behaviors of quantum and energy materials such as two-dimensional materials, oxide hetrostructures, and single atom catalysts. The applicant must possess outstanding communication skills and be able to clearly communicate the scientific significance of in situ STEM and EELS datasets to collaborators. Basic qualifications include a strong background in aberration corrected high resolution TEM imaging, STEM EELS, and image/EELS spectrum acquisition and processing. Experience in data science and scripting/programming (Python, Matlab, C++) for image processing is preferred. A Ph.D. in physics, materials science or related disciplines is required.
