The successful candidate will work on various projects under Steven A. Shea, Ph.D., Director of the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, with immediate supervision by other faculty members or senior research staff. This research aims to understand the effects of disturbed sleep and circadian rhythms on physiology and pathophysiology in humans. In particular, we investigate the adverse health effects of shift work, including obesity, the mechanisms underlying the morning peak in adverse cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke), and how sleep and circadian rhythm may contribute to racial disparities in health.
