Department: Health Service Admin Salary/Grade: NEX/10
Under direction of the Pharmacy Manager, assists in filling prescriptions, and providing customer service to users of the Health Service Pharmacy. Performs processing of purchasing transactions and invoices; maintains inventory of merchandise for resale.
Please note: There may be required overtime necessary to ensure all prescription are dispensed before the end of the day. This position is considered essential staff and does not offer the option of working remotely.
Assist with processing of prescriptions using Pro Pharm One software (retail pharmacy application). Assist pharmacist with processing of the items to be dispensed. Assist the pharmacist with maintaining patient files (allergies, medical conditions, drug histories) and drug files using standard Unified Medical Language Systems (UMLS), ICD diagnosis codes, and RxNorm/Medi-Span Master Drug Database (MDDB).
Use NU's financial system to enter orders for drugs, vaccines, and OTCs for resale. Contact with vendors to purchase drugs and OTCs. Process and reconcile invoices concerning orders with vendors and coordinate efforts with Accounts Payable. Follow established University business procedures and various state and federal regulations governing operation of the Pharmacy. Assist the Pharmacy Manager with efforts to maximize Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and committed direct purchase agreement compliance and patronage.
Process inventory as received from suppliers including general supplies for operation of the Pharmacy.
Compile utilization statistics and reports for the purposes of practice management, business initiatives, and quality management. Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. May assist with cash handling and patient accounts procedures in the absence of the Patient Accounts Coordinator. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma, valid State of Illinois pharmacy technician license, and certification as a pharmacy technician (CPhT) required. The Certified Pharmacy Technician designation applies to those individuals who have successfully passed the comprehensive exam as administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association. Some college preferred. Continued employment is contingent on retaining a valid license, CPhT certification and performance related to the position's responsibilities.
At least one year of prior retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
Moderate computer keyboarding skills of at least 30 wpm are required to keep pace with the volume of customers and transactions processed by the Pharmacy.
Computer skills should include experience with a retail pharmacy system, Microsoft Office, web browser and email.
Prior experience with healthcare information systems.

The above qualifications along with 3 years or more experience as a CPhT and competency using the Pro Pharm One Pharmacy System are preferred.
