The clinical social worker on this team will play a vital role in providing specialized psychosocial support for patients undergoing bone marrow transplant (BMT). It involves partnering with the BMT medical team to provide collaborative care and planning for challenging and complex patient needs in preparing for BMT. The clinical social worker will be a core member of BMT team, providing expertise in psychosocial care for patients, caregivers and families throughout the pre-transplant process, fostering adaptation and healthy coping, including advanced care planning and end of life decision making. This position also includes social work coverage to Leukemia and cellular therapies patients.

You will be responsible for:
Pre-bone marrow transplant psychosocial evaluation, high risk screening for psychosocial factors that may negatively impact therapy outcomes
Establishing a therapeutic relationship and engaging in problem solving and planning to develop caregiver and relocation plans
Counseling and support for adjustment to illness, depression, anxiety, survivorship, grief and loss, advanced care planning and end of life decision making
Facilitation of family meetings and bridge communication with the care team
Continuous screening for adjustment to impact of treatment
Navigating emotional and practical needs related to complications that can be life-threatening and require lengthy follow-up care
Psychoeducation and linkage with resources such as support groups and financial assistance
Advocacy and system navigation
Participation in data-gathering and evidence-based program development/evaluation
Collaboration with inpatient clinical social worker and medical team to ensure appropriate transitions
A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.
Previous experience with medical and mental health social work.
Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.
Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, PST, ACT, DBT) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.
This is a temporary, full-time, 40 hour/week position. It is expected this temporary role will be from 7/1/2021-1/31/22. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
