The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Lab Technician I who is a self-motivator with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to join the Cohen Lab through January 1, 2022. The Cohen Lab focuses on mitochondrial-derived peptides and their role in age-related diseases. The Research Lab Technician will assist in tissue culture, immunofluorescent staining, immunohistochemistry, molecular and cellular work, and animal experiments. The position requires working in both a team environment as well as perform experiments independently. This position will also involve completing lab maintenance and participation in research under direct supervision by the lab manager.
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provides general laboratory assistance to support research activities
Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols
Performs assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction
Compiles data and computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests, and techniques
Preparing DNA, mRNA, protein,
Preparing chemical solutions and lab reagents
Maintaining and operating laboratory equipment
Maintaining tissue cultures
Management of mouse colonies
Tissue processing, sectioning, and immunostaining
The ideal candidate should meet the following:
Will possess a Bachelor's or Masterâs degree in the biological sciences.
Has previous experience with tissue cultures, immunofluorescent staining, immunohistological staining, animal handling.Â
Organizational skills and an eye for detail.Â
Must be able to follow detailed instructions, oral and written, and read labels.
Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
The usual work schedule is M-F 8-5pm, but may be required to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
This is a fixed-term position with an anticipated end date of employment of 1/1/2022. This position is funded by a research grant. Accordingly, this position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent grant to continue employment.Â â
