The Department of Pathology, Bendall Lab, seeks a Life Science Technician 1 (LST-1) to assist with research projects in cancer biology, stem cell biology and molecular medicine. The LST-1 will perform routine technical tasks in cellular and molecular biology, including cell culture maintenance, staining of cells for flow and mass cytometry analysis, ATAC-seq, cloning, preparation, and aliquot of reagents. The LST-1 will also assist in maintaining lab organization as needed.
Maintain detailed records of procedures.
Under general supervision, perform cell biology techniques and perform basic analysis of the results. Maintain and expand cell cultures, stain cells and analyze them using CyTOF and FACS.
Under general supervision, perform molecular biology techniques such as ATAC-seq, western-blot, and qPCR and perform basic analysis of the results.
Help with general lab maintenance as needed; help in preparing and aliquoting reagents; test new lot of reagents (e.g., bovine fetal serum, culture medium); help in maintaining lab stock; help in managing chemical inventory and safety records and provide general lab support as needed. Putting received orders away.
Approximately one year of previous laboratory experience in molecular and/or cellular biology is required. Basic technical writing beneficial but not required.
Must be capable of and willing to pay strict attention to detail, including following written and oral instruction. Familiarity with the following experimental techniques preferred:
genomic DNA extraction
flow cytometry (FACS)
fluorescent microscopy and imaging
Must be detail-oriented and able to keep accurate records of experiments.
General understanding of scientific principles.
General computer skills and ability to quickly learn.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
