Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the new position of Second Year Class Dean and Director of Transfer Advising. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students. The Class Dean will provide programmatic and individualized holistic support and advising for all second-year and new transfer students; support recruitment and transition to Allegheny College for new transfer students; and advise the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students on all matters relating to second-year and new transfer student success. This is a brand new position and an opportunity to help build an exciting program
Work directly with second year and new transfer students as a mentor and secondary adviser (in addition to their faculty adviser).
In collaboration with faculty advisors, advise and mentor second-year and new transfer students to develop discrete curricular, co-curricular, and personal goals as advocates for their well-being and success.
Participate in responding to Academic Alerts for second-year and new transfer students under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Success.
Work with Enrollment to recruit new transfer students to Allegheny College.
In coordination with the Allegheny Bound Core Team, ensure that the needs and interests of new transfer students are represented in New Student orientation, as appropriate.
In coordination with the Allegheny Bound Core Team, oversee summer communication to all entering transfer students and families.
Serve on the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success.
In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and sustain training and professional development activities for academic and other advisors.
In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for assessing student outcomes and the success of individual programs.
M.A. required; Ph.D. preferred.
Minimum 5 years of related/applicable work experience required, preferably in higher education, with background in academic advising, teaching, or related field.
Must be willing to work during the summer months; weekend and evening work will occasionally be required.
