Dept Marketing Statement Under the general supervision of the Assistant Accounting Director, the Plant Accountant provides financial administration services relating to capital construction projects, improvements to capital assets, inventorial equipment and a variety of other accounting related functions. The incumbent is expected to provide direction consistent with campus and University objectives and unit responsibilities; work in an efficient, organized and ethical manner; exercise careful stewardship over University funds; effectively manage time and work constructively with others towards achieving unit and campus objectives. The following resources are utilized to assist with this function: University of California Accounting Manual and Business and Finance Bulletins, UC Santa Cruz Financial Affairs policy and procedure manuals and various internal resources.
The Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) unit serves as part of Accounting Services, a large and complex operation, managing the fiduciary responsibilities of the campus with annual expenditures exceeding $300 million. Accounting Services provides Accounts Payable, Plant and Equipment accounting, financial reporting, financial policy guidance and general ledger services to the campus. The FAR unit provides technical and professional services in the areas of tax compliance, financial reporting, adherence to various UC financial policies, vendor database maintenance, check and electronic payment production, data entry and travel accounting. The FAR unit interacts closely with the Accounts Payable team, vendors, campus personnel and the UC Office of the President.

Job Duties 70%: Plant Accounting
Review Campus Facilities Requisitions (CFR's) to determine if the work is capital in nature, or if the project is considered major maintenance and validate if the funding source is appropriate.
Review new construction contracts and work authorizations, identify funding sources and encumber funds in the campus financial system.
Review all new leases to determine if lease information needs to be included in the lease software program for tracking purposes.
Work with Physical Planning, Development and Operations (PPDO) to ensure that all change orders have been recorded in the financial system and that encumbrance balances are correct.
Review encumbrance related PPDO payment applications and work closely with Accounting Office staff to ensure that invoices and approved and processed in a timely manner.
Interact with other campus and UC constituents as necessary to support Plant related policies and practices.
30%: General Ledger and Miscellaneous Duties
Review specific general ledger posting activity and process journal entries as necessary.
Assist with the annual physical inventory process related to capitalized equipment.
Work on various fixed asset and fiscal close projects as assigned.
Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training in accounting or business administration.
Working knowledge of college and university fund accounting and financial reporting, financial accountability and internal controls. This includes having a general understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience analyzing and interpreting complex financial data.
Experience developing, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures in a decentralized business environment.
Ability to effectively interact and communicate with staff, faculty and vendors, including strong written communication skills.
Ability to successfully undertake multiple, concurrent responsibilities in an organized and methodical fashion.
Proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet, database, word processing, and financial information software.
