This position is responsible for the production and distribution of high-quality fruit fly media in the Drosophila Media Prep Facility, a Core facility, in the Division of Biology and Medicine; this work supports research performed in multiple laboratories. The technical assistant receives orders placed by laboratories, produces food according to specific recipes, orders supplies, and is responsible for cleaning glass vials in the facility washroom.
In addition, this position provides support to the Multi-Disciplinary Teaching Laboratories (MDL); this support includes assisting the MDL technicians in the preparation and running of the various biology classes and labs, helping to set up equipment and supplies, cleaning up after labs, and maintenance of computers, audiovisual equipment, and laboratory instruments
High School Diploma or GED with 3-5 yearsâ™ experience required.
Associate's Degree in science with 1-2 yearsâ™ experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work in a service oriented department; ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to work in a fast paced, changing, and often stressful environment; able to prioritize tasks.
Ability to maintain a clean workplace.
Ability to follow protocols precisely and to produce media according to laboratory guidelines.
Ability to measure reagents accurately.
Ability to operate required equipment, i.e., dishwasher, autoclave, steam kettle and food pump.
Must possess significant computer skills to produce spread sheets and track data.
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
