The Project Assistant for the Motorcycle Safety Program at Delta College is responsible for supporting the Project Coordinator in overseeing the program Rider Coach/Instructors and resources necessary to ensure Delta College can deliver the Michigan Department of State Motorcycle Rider Safety Program.
This role provides back up administrative support to the Project Coordinator to ensure Delta College can deliver the motorcycle program.
The Project Assistant will work April-September to ensure the delivery of the motorcycle safety program and provide additional assistance throughout the year with an estimated 60 hours total annually with pay rate $30 per hour.
Providing direction for all Rider Coach/Instructors and assigning of instructors to teach courses while maintaining a 6 to 1 rider to coach ratio per state guidelines.
Ensure all Rider Coach/Instructors have current certifications to teach.
Ensuring motorcycle range is set up per guidelines and operated in a safe manner.
Provide leadership and participate in annual site audit of program.
Ensure proper documentation, student information and pass rates are input into state system and provided to Delta College.
Monitor and oversee motorcycle inventory and needs. Identify sources for parts, repair and coordinate delivery of bikes to and from shops for repair. Identify and track bike conditions as well as maintain detailed list of bike inventory needs.
Prepare bikes prior to and after program to ensure they are all operational and safe to ride.
Coordinate the trailer move and additional range set up occurs in a timely manner according to production schedule.
Identify Rider Coach/Instructor training needs, hold necessary meetings to community program expectations and Delta College procedures and safety needs.
Openly communicate needs of program, student and instructor concerns, and work with Program Coordinator on identifying the appropriate schedule of courses.
Attend state trainings as required.
The Motorcycle Safety Program is designed for those who wish to obtain their motorcycle endorsement(s) and may have little or no riding experience. The Project Assistant will be expected to be a role model for Delta College motorcyclists, and as such, will be expected to demonstrate safe riding habits and always wear protective gear when riding to, from, and during rider training activities.
Teaching a motorcycle safety course is physically demanding. It requires long hours, walking several miles in the course of a day, bending and stooping to place cones, and sometimes the need to push inoperable motorcycles for distances up to ¼ mile. Hot and cold weather conditions can add to the strenuous conditions that may be encountered while teaching the course.
Applicants who are considered for interview will be required to perform a teaching demonstration and will be given a driving skills test.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be an experienced motorcycle rider with a valid driver's license and motorcycle (CY) endorsement
Current MSF Certified Rider Coach
Must be approved by the Michigan Department of State to participate in the
