The Konermann Lab in the Department of Biochemistry at the Stanford University School of Medicine is recruiting a Life Science Technician II (LST) to start as soon as possible.
The LST will immediately join a fast-moving project investigating human genetic risk in Alzheimer's disease. The LST will collaborate closely with a senior graduate student and Professor Konermann to conduct high-throughput CRISPR transcriptional perturbation experiments in stem cell-derived neurons and glia. This project builds on recent high-profile work in genome-scale CRISPR screening (Konermann et al., Nature 2015), transcriptome engineering (Konermann et al., Cell 2018), and single-cell sequencing technologies.
Maintenance and expansion of stem cell and stem cell-derived cultures.
Generation of multiple brain cell types from human stem cells.
Staining, sorting, transfection, transduction of cultured cells.
Purification, cloning, quantification, sequencing of DNA/RNA.
About Silvana Konermann: Dr. Silvana Konermann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Stanford University School of Medicine, a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator, and an HHMI Hanna H. Gray Fellow. The focus of Dr. Konermann's lab is the development and application of technologies for high-throughput transcriptional perturbations to understand the cellular and molecular pathways driving human genetic risk in neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Konermann received her B.S. from ETH Zurich and her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from MIT, where she was advised by Feng Zhang and received the international Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award. She was a postdoc at the Salk Institute before joining Stanford as an Assistant Professor in 2019.
B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related field.
At least 1 year of laboratory experience (including in college), incorporating strong hands-on experience with molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
Bonus: experience working with sensitive cells (e.g. stem cells, primary neurons, etc.).
Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in the scientific discipline a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Work at the Life Science Technician II level requires experience and ability beyond that required for the Life Science Technician I, including increased technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds.
Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds.
Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
Position may require repetitive motion.
