This Physician-Nephrologist position is located at VA Central California Health Care System and under Medicine Service. The Nephrologist is expected to provide consultation services and follow up of renal patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting, dialysis patient care and performing acute, chronic dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy. Qualifications include outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills to provide continuous veteran-centered care and supervise trainees in all healthcare settings.
Responsibilities • Provide direct professional and comprehensive Nephrology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. • Provide inpatient and outpatient Nephrology consultations, renal clinic evaluation and follow up, performing acute, chronic dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy. • Establish professional working relationship with clinical service providers within the medical center including inpatient hospitalist, sub specialties, Outpatient Clinics (OPCs), and the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed. • Provide and participate in didactic and clinical education of fellow, resident, medical student and non-physician clinical trainee. • Provide education and counseling of Veterans and families in renal related preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. • Participate in a variety of meetings and/or committees within and related to the Medicine Service, facility-wide committees, VISN 21, and our university affiliate UCSF Fresno. • Participate and responsible for ongoing professional performance evaluations in collaboration with the Chief of medicine service (e.g. Ongoing Professional Evaluations (OPPE), Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE), etc.). • The candidate must be willing to be on call, work weekends, federal holidays and irregular hours. Candidate is expected to cover minimum 2 weekends per months and most of the federal holidays.
Work Schedule: Part- Time, 0.25 FTE, on-call duties after hours, on weekends, and holidays. Minimal 2 weekends per month.
Qualifications and Other Requirements
The physician must be board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for internal medicine and nephrology. American Heart Association BLS certified. The Staff Nephrologist will have a faculty appointment with UCSF Fresno.
The physician must meet medical staff criteria for initial appointment and reappraisal in accordance with VHA Handbook 1100.19, entitled Credentialing and Privileging to practice medicine at VACCHCS. The physician must comply with VA policies, including VA/VHA security policies, applicable VA confidentiality statutes (Title 5 U.S.C Section 552a (Privacy Act), Title 38 U.S.C. Section 5701, Title 38 U.S.C. Section 5705, Title 38 U.S.C Section 7332, and Public Law 104-191 (HIPAA)) and the respective regulations implementing these statutes, and Federal statutes and/or regulations applicable to Federal agency records. The physician shall be the subject of a background investigation and must receive a favorable adjudication from the VA SIC. The physician must comply with all training requirements and especially VA Information Security Awareness, Rules of Behavior, Privacy Act, and HIPAA conducted annually.
