This position is under the general supervision of the Payroll Operations Manager and is responsible for a variety of accounting and payroll related functions; provides consultation, training and liason for more than 100 payroll/personnel representatives located in campus departments and Staff Human Resources. The inbumbent must understand and use payroll professional concepts and apply organizational policies and procedures to resolve a variety of payroll issues. The incumbent works on payroll problems of moderate to complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. The incumbent exercises significant independent judgement in the interpretation of complex regulations and policies relating to payroll administration. The Payroll Division, of the Campus Accounting Office, provides technical and professional payroll and accounting services to the Santa Cruz Campus of the University of California. The payroll function has been decentralized to each campus, with Office of the President and University of California UC Path Center providing the computerized payroll system. The Campus Payroll Operations have the responsibility to operate within the policies and procedures established by the Office of the President and in collaboration with the UC Path Center.

Job Duties 25%: Under general supervision, provides analysis of moderate to complex payroll actions such as analyzing missed pay calculations using the UCPath. Take necessary action to correct and/or adjust pay transactions in a timely manner in collaboration with UC Path Center. 20%: Interprets pay policies and UCPath processes to Administer the Payroll PayCard program at Santa Cruz. Includes Instant PayCard as well as regualr PayCards now available to UC employees. 15%: Assist employees and departments with legacy PPS questions and follow through with UCPath Center for any adjustments that need to be processed from missed PPS transactions. 10%: Audits and reconciles payroll benefit deductions using UCPath reports and system. Provides guidance on error resolution to employees or departments. 5%: Assists departments with questions concerning wage payments and deductions and/or refers them to The UC Path Center for clarification when necessary. 15%: Identifies and analyzes reconciliation of payroll liability accounts. Including the accuracy of student FICA information. Reviews FICA calculations, determine if refunds are needed and process correcting transactions. Review all Federal, State and Local income tax withholding exemption requests. 5%: Provides background information to higher level Payroll Analysts for resolution. 5%: Provides ad hoc payroll training to departmental payroll processors.

Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Understanding of the University of California policies and procedures.
Prior experience with PeopleSoft Payroll and PPS (Payroll Personnel System).
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
