The Housekeeping Supervisor is part of the Facilities, Plant Operations department, at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for supervising 2nd shift housekeeping staff performing general housekeeping and cleaning duties in 20 buildings across the Vanderbilt University campus. The Housekeeping Supervisor will provide supervision and support to front line staff, to ensure compliance with University cleaning standards, sustainable cleaning practices, safe workplace practices, and applicable regulatory codes to maintain a clean and safe environment for students, faculty and staff. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, this role will work as a partner and in collaboration with all departments throughout the VU campus daily.
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration and Supervision
Supervise a custodian staff of up to 30 employees in performing safe housekeeping duties
Coordinate work schedules, schedule special assignments, determine efficient work flow
Respond to and address customer complaints
Manages personnel actions; including hiring, performance/disciplinary actions and terminations
Review and process payroll timely and accurately
Manage attendance and PTO usage
Administer union contract for the assigned areas
Respond to emergencies in a timely and professional manner
Provide information to customers regarding work order status; follow up with the customer after the work is completed
Inspect work in progress to ensure proper custodial work assignments and procedures are followed and utilization of time and standards are maintained
Train new employees on proper cleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Inventory and Maintenance
Report maintenance deficiencies and generate the necessary work orders; close work order when work has been completed
Maintains inventory of custodial materials, equipment and supplies, requisitions custodial materials, equipment and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels following established guidelines
This position does have supervisory responsibility of up to 30 custodial staff; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Building Services Manager.
High School Diploma or GED is required .
A ssociate's degree is preferred .
Two years of previous supervisory experience is necessary.
Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skill, relevant technical and functional expertise, leadership and personal effectiveness is required .
Strong time management, multi-tasking, quality assurance and customer relations skills are required .
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point is required .
Knowledge of AiM is preferred .
