Responsible for directing a wide range of support functions and all activities relating to building operations, building systems, security, maintenance and services and facility budget control for FAS locations including Widener Library, Lamont Library, Pusey Library and Houghton Library, and Harvard Library (HL) locations including the Harvard Depository. Manage and oversee the security program for all FAS Libraries and HL. The FAS portfolio totals approximately 800,000 Square Feet and with a budget of approximately $9 million, and the HL portfolio of 200,000 Square Feet with a budget of $2 million.
Manages and oversees all aspects of the building operations to ensure that the highest quality service is provided in support of the libraries.
Responsible for leadership and supervision of building operations and administrative staff, door checker staff and various contractors/vendors including maintenance, security, mail, and custodial staff.
Dotted line reporting to the Harvard Library Director of Administration and Finance and a member of the Senior Administrative Team, participate in strategic planning and goal setting for the FAS and Harvard Library organizations. Responsible during library building emergencies, renovations and for security issues for other FAS libraries including: Tozzer, Yenching, Fine Arts/Littauer, Loeb Music, Cabot/Science Center, Statistics/Science Center, Math/Science Center, Film Archives/Carpenter, Audio Preservation/Story Street, Physics/Jefferson Lab, as well as HL locations including 625 Mass Ave, 90 Mount Auburn Street and 8 Story Street.
Manage and oversee security program for all FAS Libraries (Widener, Lamont, Pusey, Houghton, Tozzer, Yenching, Fine Arts/Littauer, Loeb Music, Cabot/Science Center, Statistics/Science Center, Math/Science Center, Film Archives/Carpenter, Audio Preservation/Story Street, Physics/Jefferson Lab) as well as HL locations (Depository, 625 Mass Ave, 90 Mount Auburn Street and 8 Story Street). including: cameras, card readers, panic buttons, book detection gates and network video recorders.
Ensures that the proper training, advice, and knowledge are available to the operations staff to keep pace with changing technologies.
Establish and oversee processes needed for maintenance, emergency repairs, safety program and renovations.
Reviews computer-based HVAC, security and fire systems, monitors safety compliance, coordinates inspections and ensures compliance with codes and regulations.
Works closely with the Library Preservation team to ensure environmental conditions are achieved.
Works closely with OPRP and Harvard University Office for Sustainability staff to implement best operations and maintenance practices, and to actively participate in FAS greenhouse gas and energy reduction efforts and goals for the libraries.
Meets with library department heads to ensure that all building and security issues are addressed.
Continually manages and monitors the project and work order systems.
Develops long range maintenance and life-cycle costing plans for building systems.
Works closely with university officials: Harvard University Police Department, external agencies, and organizations to gain and share knowledge for future security concerns and programs in the Libraries.
Continually reviews security and facility needs for the portfolio.
Manage vending equipment and Lamont Cafe in coordination with Harvard University Dining Services.
Act as a liaison between the libraries, university departments, outside vendors and contractors in matters relating to facilities.
During emergency situations and severe inclement weather this position is designated as essential and critical to the operations of the FAS.

Bachelor's degree plus 10+ years of progressive work experience managing facilities OR, in lieu of a degree, at least 12 years of progressive work experience managing facilities. Proven ability to analyze and resolve large scale facility, logistical, and organizational issues. Strong computer and data analysis skills. Previous supervisory experience.
BA/BS preferred. Professional, with ability to communicate effectively with faculty and senior administrators. Diplomacy, negotiation and consensus-building skills.
