We are seeking an Athletic Fields Supervisor to join our rapidly growing team.

As our Athletic Fields Supervisor, you will lead our team to ensure that our athletes have the highest quality fields available for training, collegiality, and competition. Supervise athletic fields staff. Interview applicants and make hiring decisions. Train staff and counsel or discipline as needed. Provide performance feedback and prepare documented appraisals. Determine and/or recommends unit salary administration including raises, promotions, and/or reclassifications.
Assess athletic fields maintenance workload and plan or schedule staff accordingly. Develop, plan, and implement annual renovation and maintenance programs for athletic fields to optimize turf play quality. Determine staffing needs for peak volumes and/or special projects and arrange for temporary workers. Authorize overtime as appropriate. Ensure staff is adequately trained and cross-trained to promote continuity of operations during vacations and extended absences.
Monitor workflow for efficiency and timeliness. Set priorities based on landscape conditions, weather, and special events. Make adjustments as needed.
Review work for quality, completion, accuracy, and adherence to internal operating policies and procedures. Address problems and errors and provide feedback.
Provide technical assistance to staff for training purposes and for problem-solving. Provide background and interpretation of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Determine costs of equipment, materials, and supplies and price accordingly. Order materials, supplies, and equipment. Liaise with vendors on issues related to products, services, and delivery.
Maintain specialized equipment and provide training for staff and/or student workers on utilization of equipment. Make minor repairs and/or coordinate with vendors for preventive maintenance, repairs, and/or enhancements. Research and prepare recommendations for acquisitions of specialized equipment.
Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and internal systems which support the work of the unit. Define needs and coordinate the development of manual and/or automated systems to facilitate workflow.
Ensure records are kept up-to-date and maintained in accordance with applicable regulations.
Maintain unit statistics on productivity and generates reports for review by manager. Prepare standing and/or ad hoc reports for management. Gather data, determine report format, and generate information.
Plan and administer income and expense budgets. Develop projections. Track actual income and expenses and adjust operating plans to address variances.
Secure all athletic facilities and fields to ensure proper use. Contact Department of Public Safety to report unauthorized usage and personnel.
Design and perform annual, bi-annual, and on-demand maintenance program for the competition field and adjacent landscapes areas of the facilities.
Create and execute seeding, topdressing, aeration, verticutting, mowing, and replacement of competition of the facilities.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: 5 years.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of athletic fields maintenance with progressive leadership/management/supervision experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce.
Thorough knowledge of sports turf maintenance with knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Understanding and working knowledge of the requirements of a âworld-classâ natural turf playing surface for athletic competitions including football, soccer, and/or lacrosse.
Basic knowledge of field sports, gardening, and ground maintenance.
Demonstrated use of tools and equipment (including power tools and motorized machinery).
Minimal familiarity with common plant species, landscaping, and cultivation.
Knowledge of standard safety practices using equipment and other requirements of workplace safety.
Understanding and implementation of proper field protective cover and recovery after field cover.
Working knowledge of standard safety practices using equipment and other requirements of workplace safety.

What We Prefer:
Bachelorâs Degree in Horticulture, Turf Grass Sciences, or related field.
7 years of experience within a college or university environment.
Knowledge of the UPC and/or HSC campuses.
