Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our goal is to drive scalable solutions for better care at critical moments in people's lives everywhere. Better care means better health outcomes, lower costs, and more actual caring. Critical means solving health systems failures that have major impact, typically touching people by the millions. Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care.
The vision of the Delivery Decisions Initiative (DDI) at Ariadne Labs is a world in which every person can choose to start or grow their family with dignity. During the universally vulnerable period in people's lives that spans pregnancy to parenthood, families deserve care that is safe, supportive and empowering. We draw from a broad range of expertise to bring systems thinking to this challenge.
Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Research Assistant will help support the Team Birth Project and Nurse Impact. TeamBirth is a care process innovation that is designed to improve childbirth outcomes in any setting by ensuring families, birth attendants, and clinicians are working together as high performing teams. We are currently implementing and performing research in several geographies in the United States. The Nursing Influence Project is a new line of research, development and implementation focused on attributing cesarean delivery rates to individual nurses and learning how to use these data for improvement.
The DDI team currently includes the Program Director, Associate Directors, Associate Faculty, Design Lead, Research Manager, Research Assistants, Project Coordinator(s), post-doctoral fellows, and both graduate and undergraduate students. We additionally collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across the world. We anticipate significant growth over the next three years in terms of the scale of our product deployment, the scope of our market priming activity, and our internal capacity needs.
A successful candidate must possess strong analytical and organizational skills, strong time management skills, capacity to proactively identify and improve projects and processes, and experience working both in a team and independently. They must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, and strong interpersonal skills – including experience interacting effectively with colleagues and partners at all levels (including research and clinical professionals).
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support the development of a regional effectiveness trial for TeamBirth, including background research for region selection, planning for data collection and implementation, and ongoing coordination with implementation partners and test sites
Assist with the operations of a TeamBirth community of practice, including maintaining program materials on the Aria website and monitoring requests and questions from community members
Assist in quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of results for the TeamBirth and Nurse Impact projects
Conduct reviews of peer-reviewed and gray literature and synthesize findings on topics relevant to DDI projects, including dignity, teamwork, communication, and quality measurement
Participate in dissemination work including scientific writing of manuscripts, reports, abstracts, and development of project-related presentations, including the possibility of co-authorship on scientific papers
Support with administrative tasks for ongoing program operations, including scheduling, note taking, grant writing, and other activities as identified
